July 1st commences the 22nd edition of the Festival which will be a definite revelation. Italian, Spanish, Austrian, American, French, Scandinavian and Polish musicians will perform on our stage. This year we are extending the formula by adding a special, gala concert at the Polish Radio Concert Hall.
International Open Air Festival, Jazz at the Old Town, is a unique event of it’s kind and one of the most popular and the biggest, considering the number of the public, jazz festivals in Poland. It lasts through two summer months, concerts take place every Saturday in July and August. According to studies and questionnaires it became an artistic representation of Warsaw. Over the years, the audience of different age amounted to an impressive one million. One edition of the festival gathers about 40 thousand music lovers and tourists from Poland and abroad alike. In over the 20 years of its existence, the festival had an impressive half a million of viewers. The festival creates new facts and artistic values. International stars, premiere concerts and jazz discoveries are our signature signs.
During the previous festivals, Polish audience had a chance to enjoy for the first time such greats of the swing era like: Scott Hamilton, Duffy Jackson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, hear new discoveries of the American music scene like: Alfredo Rodriguez Grace Kelly, Kyle Eastwood (Clint Eastwood’s son), Avishai Cohen, Hiromi.
Most outstanding Polish jazz stars and artists aa well as groups presented their premiere projects, among those were: Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Janusz Muniak, Jarek Śmietana, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Leszek Możdżer, Włodek Pawlik and The Quartet, String Connection, Laboratorium, Dream Team, Simple Acoustic Trio, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet.
In last editions we also presented international jazz stars like: Archie Sheep, David Murray, Richard Galliano, Dino Saluzzi, Bill Evans, Lee Konitz, Chico Freeman, Bobo Stenson, Kenny Wheeler, Tord Gustavsen, Yaron Herman, Marilyn Mazur, Danilo Rea, Jeff Lorber, Ernie Watts, Jasper Van Hof, Eric Marienthal, Enrico Pieranunzi, Jacky Terrasson Trio, Joey Calderazzo, Mike Stern, Bill Evans, Roy Hargrove Christian McBride, Charnett Moffett, Stanley Jordan, Terje Rypdal, Palle Mikkelborg, Omar Sosa.
It is worth mentioning that the festival is present in most important national media, information about the festival was shown by BBC World and TV Deutche Welle, Das Erste made a documentary about the event. This year’s edition of the Festival will be a definite revelation.

The Best in Jazz. Star of the European jazz scene and an absolute piano master, who shines with unique talent. Virtuoso, expressionist, mystic, teacher, a man with a comic streak, a soloist and a leader. He has an uncanny ability to communicate with the public and to weave various musical styles into his fantastic improvisations. In 2003 Japanese "Swing Journal" gave him New Star Award, he is a recipient of Hans Koller European Jazz Prize and in 2007 was already considered the best European Jazzman. In 2010 he was given a honorary title by Berklee College of Music w Bostonie. He colaborates with the top artists of the jazz world like : Pat Metheny, Richard Galliano and Chick Corea / the famous concert was the sixth of the kind in the career of Stefano Bollani / The Trio is completed by great Danish musicians Jesper Bodilsen i Morten Lund, who since 2002 are also members of Enric Rava Jazzpar Sixtet. It will be their only concert in Poland.

Famous French jazz guitarist of Gypsy roots and with unusual biography. “The golden child” with the great talent started playing at the age of four. He first recorded at thirteen and performed with the greats like: Stephan Grapelli, Jaco Pastorius, John McLaughlin , Joe Zawinul, Al Di Meola, Stanley Clarke, Miroslav Vitous and Didier Lockwood. He creates jazz, swing with ethnic inspirations and music related to the compositions of Django Reinhardt.
Outstanding Polish jazz pianist of the international fame – according to "New York Village Voice" one of the five best contemporary pianists. In the 70-s, with Andrzej Olejniczak and Jarek Śmietana he created important jazz groups of the times - Extra Ball and Sunship. In the 80’s he moved to the Western Europe. In his music he combines classic, jazz and world music sounds. Worked and played with: Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham, Marcus Miller, Didier Lockwood and Bireli Lagrene.
David Helbock belongs to the top of Austrian, young artists. Outstanding pianist, drummer and composer, a recipient of "Outstanding Artist Award“, has already recorder 11 albums. Simon Frick is a renown violinist and composer of a wide stylistic range. In 2015 he has received Next Genaration Jazz Award. Plays with many string groups and orchestras in Austria, Sweden and Germany and gives concerts all over the globe. The Trio crosses the music frontiers, in a masterly, yet humorous way moves through various jazz, classical and folk styles.
Jazz top ensemble. Ulf Wakenius, a Swedish guitar genius is one of the world masters, who is widely acclaimed and many dream of playing by his side. He cooperated with the jazz icons like: Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Ray Brown, Joe Henderson, Max Roach and Kenny Kirkland. Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, John Scofield and Mike Stern are his fans. Ulf Wakenius played for Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and the Queen - Elizabeth II. Work of West Montgomery, one of the greatest guitar geniuses of all times, will be honored by Ulf and Leonard Corradi – young Italian organ virtuoso and Tony Match – outstanding French producer and drummer.

The concert is dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Sławek Jaskułke, who is one of the Best Polish jazz pianists of the international fame, will present his newest project “ On “. An improviser, composer of the music for the piano, film, theatre and orchestras, performed on many famous stages like : Carnegie Hall in New York and Symphony Hall in Chicago. He represented Poland at a Music Beyond Borders festival in Hong Kong, during International Exposition in Shanghai and in the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Bejing. He is a recipient of many awards, Fryderyka, the jazz Oskar, among others and will present his long awaited project “ On”.
American masters : Mark Soskin, Rory Stuart, Matt Penman, Greg Hutchinson under the lead of a legendary sax player Greg Osby will perform in a special project. Greg Osby always leaves his mark whenever he is playing and is one of the most colorful personalities of the modern jazz scene.He is a four time recipient of the prestigious Jazz Journalists Award and of the award given to composers by the Duke Foundation. He performed with : Jack DeJohnette, Steve Coleman, Jim Hall, Wadada Leo Smith. In 2008 created his own recording company - Inner Circle Music, which became a springboard for many outstanding, contemporary artists from all over the world.
Jazz Top. Premiere event. Cyrus Chestnut is a multitalented jazz pianist, composer, lyricist and a producer who player and recorded with : Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, Kenny Barron, Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall and Cassandra Wilson. As a leader he recorded 16 fabulous albums, many of which were on the top of the hit lists. Album Soul Food, recorded with Christian McBride and James Carter was named by Down Beat The best album of 2002. jako najlepsza płyta 2002 roku. In 2005 You Are My Sunshine was a hit with jazz and gospel aficionados. Members of his trio – bass player Buster Wiliams and a drummer Lenny White, are also at the top of the jazz world and are known for their recordings with Miles Davies.
Adam Bałdych – a violinist, composer, producer and by many considered to be the hope of world jazz violinists, records for the prestigious ACT Music. He has received many awards like : ECHO Jazz 2013 and Fryderyk. He eliminates the boundaries between jazz, classical and modern music and outlines new musical paths. Helge Lien trio is one of the most important Scandinavian groups, which has received a Norvegian equivalent of a Grammy. Their style is a continuation and adaptation of music by Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau.
Premiere. Antonio Serrano is a harmonica genius, composer of world wide fame and one of Spanish jazz masters. This most popular Iberian artist, a recipient of the Latin Grammy in 2015 for the album - A La Música De Paco De Lucía, will present his newest project. He performed with Barbara Hendricks, Placido Domingo, Wynton Marsalis, Toots Thielemans, Vincente Amigo,Clarles Benavent and many symphonic orchestras, which confirm his high status. Serrano effortlessly moves between jazz, flamenco, pop and classical music. Flame & Co, is the first album combining jazz with flamenco where the harmonica has an outstanding role.
